Indian Foreign Secretary Misri arrives in Kathmandu

Kathmandu : India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Nepal on Sunday for a two-day official visit. He came to Nepal at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Seva Lamsal, who welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport. The visit was jointly announced by the foreign ministries of Nepal and India on Friday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two foreign secretaries will discuss strengthening Nepal-India relations and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. The Indian Foreign Secretary is also scheduled to meet with high-ranking officials of Nepal.
"This visit is a continuation of regular exchanges between two friendly neighbors," the Foreign Ministry stated. "The upcoming visit by the Foreign Secretary will continue the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and reflects the priority India places on its relations with Nepal under its 'Neighborhood First' policy," the Indian Foreign Ministry's statement mentioned.
Misri is the highest-ranking diplomatic official to visit Nepal since the formation of the Congress-UML coalition government in Nepal. This is his second visit to a neighboring country after assuming the position of Indian Foreign Secretary. He had visited Bhutan on July 19-20.
It has been a tradition for Indian Foreign Secretaries to undertake introductory visits to neighboring countries shortly after assuming office. Misri took charge as India's Foreign Secretary on July 15, succeeding Vinay Mohan Kwatra. Misri is set to return to India on Monday.
