Chinese President Xi Jinping Directs Rescue and Relief Efforts Following Floods in Nepal
KATHMANDU: Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed authorities to intensify search, rescue, and relief efforts after floods originating from China’s border areas caused significant damage in Nepal.
President Xi instructed authorities to make every possible effort to locate and rescue missing people, evacuate and resettle those in danger, and provide immediate medical treatment to the injured to minimize casualties.
He also called for stronger monitoring and early warning systems, scientifically organized rescue operations, and measures to prevent secondary disasters.
“We are now at a critical period for flood prevention. All regions and relevant departments must earnestly implement all flood and storm prevention measures, strengthen the investigation and mitigation of various risks and hidden dangers, resolutely prevent major disasters and accidents, and ensure the safety of people’s lives and property,” China Radio International (CRI) quoted Xi as saying.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also issued instructions, calling for the rapid verification of the number of missing people and disaster victims, the mobilization of forces for rescue and relief operations, and the immediate and orderly evacuation of people at risk.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should strengthen communication and coordination with the countries concerned, promptly report the situation, and jointly and properly handle the rescue work,” Li said in his instructions.
Following the directives, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has dispatched officials from relevant departments to the affected areas to guide and coordinate rescue and relief efforts.
