NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Donates $10 Million to Support Nepal Flood Relief

Kathmandu. NVIDIA, the U.S.-based global technology company, and its Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang have donated $10 million, equivalent to approximately NPR 1.53 billion, to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood victims in Nepal.

The funds have reportedly been made available to the Government of Nepal to support relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for people affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi area and other parts of the country.

NVIDIA is one of the world’s leading companies in artificial intelligence, graphics processing and accelerated computing technologies. The company extended the assistance following the significant loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure caused by the recent floods in Nepal.

The contribution was made possible following an initiative led by Nepali officials working at NVIDIA, including Ashok Pandey, along with Aarti Neupane and other Nepali colleagues. They reportedly brought the scale of the disaster and its impact in Nepal to the attention of the company’s leadership and urged the company to provide assistance to flood-affected communities. Following their request and coordination, NVIDIA decided to provide $10 million in support.

Ashok Pandey, Aarti Neupane and other Nepali employees at the company are said to have played an important role in facilitating the assistance. Their continued efforts, advocacy and coordination helped make the contribution possible.

Appreciation has also been expressed to Nepal’s Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle for facilitating coordination between the company and the Government of Nepal and helping make the assistance possible. Gratitude has also been extended to Aarti Neupane and other Nepali colleagues at NVIDIA whose efforts and initiative contributed to securing the support.

Neupane has previously played an active role in mobilizing relief assistance during times of disaster. While in Nigeria, she was involved in coordinating relief fundraising on behalf of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Nigeria following an earthquake. Her efforts and coordination in mobilizing the latest assistance for flood victims in Nepal have also been highly appreciated.

The devastating floods that recently struck Nepal have caused extensive loss of life and property. The Bhotekoshi region and surrounding areas have been particularly affected, with major damage reported to roads, bridges, hydropower projects, communication infrastructure, commercial establishments and private homes. A large number of people have lost their lives, many remain missing, and thousands have been displaced.

At a time when affected communities urgently require assistance, the substantial financial contribution is expected to support immediate relief operations as well as rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

The $10 million contribution, equivalent to approximately NPR 1.53 billion, is regarded as one of the significant contributions from the private sector and international community toward disaster relief in Nepal.

The funds are expected to help provide food, temporary shelter, medical assistance and other essential supplies to flood-affected communities, while also supporting the reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges, electricity infrastructure and communication networks.

The assistance also demonstrates how Nepali communities around the world can use their networks, relationships and initiatives to mobilize international support for Nepal during times of crisis. The fact that such a substantial contribution was secured from one of the world’s leading technology companies through the efforts of its Nepali employees is being viewed as a significant achievement for the Nepali community.
